my first DW-exclusive post in a while

I'm logged-in at work, which I never would do with Tumblr, so I'm going to just. Natter for a moment.
1) i can get thru my reading page on DW in a reasonable session, which i can't on tumblr lately, because the volume of posts that are repetitive reblogs is so much less. pro/con: pro: i can get thru it and don't miss stuff, con: sometimes there's nothing new when I refresh, which makes it feel dead. Conclusion: probably a net good, in terms of wasting time and breaking self-destructive timewasting "stuck" no-executive-function habits.
2) ugh our usual warehouse shipping guy is out sick so the company CEO is doing his job, in our remote warehouse in Philly, and that means my coworker is going to spend literally the entire day on the phone with the boss explaining why we do our jobs the way we do them every single day, because the boss doesn't usually pay attention so he doesn't know why we do what we do. pro/con: con is that it's super annoying to listen to on the phone and I get mad because we do this job every day how dare you swoop in and ask such basic questions and why don't you believe us when we answer you?? but the pro outweighs it: nobody is going to pay a lick of attention to me all damn day, I just have to listen to this as the dues I'm paying. conclusion: i'm going to be on here and pissy a lot today, look forward to that.
3) I can log into DW at work because it's not so graphics-heavy. the white background is innocuous, and almost nobody posts porn gifsets. pro/con: pro is that I can keep up in short bursts and engage more, but the con is, well, nobody posts porn gifsets, what am I supposed to look at? conclusion: no, don't post porn gifsets, but do link if you find some good ones. (I'll be monitoring Pornhub's wooing of Tumblr sex workers with mild interest.)

Pornhub's thing is... well, I hear a lot about them using content without consent or compensation, but since I hear it on tumblr i'm let's say sceptical.

My job exists, is the thing, so. If I can write a novel on the clock, and then self-pub it, it'll have been worth basically not getting paid, right? LOL.

Yeah, I've heard only Tumblr-style complaints about Pornhub, and I just don't have enough skin in the game to look into it any further. If you could make a living as a porn-curator-- actually I used to know someone who did that, on the Internet. He had a really interesting blog, and I mostly remember that he went on a crusade to tell pornographers to lay off the humiliation-kink stuff because he and a whole posse of his readers were all super turned-off by it. it was astonishingly wholesome. A bunch of inarticulate Internet literal-wankers wrote like, an open letter to a couple of video producers, that were basically like, "we buy your videos because we like to get off looking at pretty ladies, plz to stop sharpieing things on their foreheads and having men choke them and just go back to the normal sex stuff thx". I remember being really astonished by it at the time.
I think this was before Pornhub existed, though, and I stopped paying attention because, well, yeah, most of it was ladies getting choked and having things sharpie'd on their foreheads etc. and that does get to you eventually.
Despite having been on Tumblr so long (or maybe because of) I don't have a great relationship with Internet porn! So this is definitely not my wheelhouse to explore further.

The porn open letter thing is amazing, and oddly sweet. I hate that anything vaguely BDSM descends into humiliation in mainstream porn, when what I'm looking for is... well, the A/V version of Rey stroking Poe's hair and notching his arousal up from your fic, or caretaking dom bits from other fic. Basically I want porn to be filmed NC-17 fanfic and it never is.

I seem to be spending a lot of time on here atm too. I'm not missing the artwork but only because I'm not thinking about it. When I think about it, I'm sad not to see all that glorious art that used to be my main attraction to Tumblr. I've joined Instagram as well in the hope that I can find it there instead.

I've been on Instagram a long time but realized I don't follow any fandom people and hardly any actual artists, so maybe that's a reasonable way forward.

Oddly enough, since DW has been so active in the last few days I haven't had the desire to try and catch up with tumblr. The appeal of infinitely scrolling ins't there.

Yeah, I can see the appeal waning. I haven't broken it entirely yet; the memes of Impending Doom are too funny still, but soon i'll be bored of them.
I don't know where I'll see my terrible Dank Memes now. Maybe we can convince someone who's still willing to browse Tumblr to start a TumblrFeed comm where they curate the few actually-amusing Tumblr memes for the rest of us to browse and have conversations in the comments section about, LOL.
