If you’re curious about Dreamwidth, there are some posts here that describe the features of DW/LJ clones. I know not everybody’s going to leave to Dreamwidth, or leave Tumblr at all, but I thought I would put in a good word for a platform not run by incompetents (coughpillowfortcough) and that has demonstrated it understands sustainability over the long term.
Casey Fiesler wrote a post about fandom migrations throughout the years and noted Tumblr and AO3 paired together, filling in the social gap that Livejournal once did. AO3 is an excellent platform for archiving fanwork. It’s not particularly great at fostering community unrelated to specific fanworks. I hope we can give Dreamwidth an opportunity to be that space for socialization, with attendant pluses.
