ughhhhh i recently went through this and GAVE UP. It’s like, either a tarp or it’s $300. Sales at Land’s End currently, maybe something good there.
thanks! land’s end is still pricy but i suppose getting a good raincoat that will last is an investment. my current one is from sears and about 7 years old i think? it was good for a long time but is no longer water proof and i have to be out walking dogs rain or shine so i may well shell out for one.
literally checked f21+ and they had a bunch of shitty ones that were open at the chest and probably dubiously water proof and one that looked decent (if ugly) but it was 80 fucking dollars! at forever 21! wtf! torrid had nothing in my size and is expensive to boot. tried modcloth on a whim because i thought maybe i’ll pay more if they have a really cute one, but nope. only two plus size raincoats that are both sold out in my size.
it occurs to me now that i haven’t tried lane bryant. i fucking hate lane bryant but it’s worth giving it a look. the struggle is real!
update: lane bryant does not sell raincoats.
I looked on Amazon as well. Woman Within is on there, relatively inexpensive and reasonable, but sort of. Well, tarpy.
I also got a Calvin Klein Businessy Formalwear raincoat on Amazon a few years back, which has held up but is so Middle Aged Matronly I don’t really like to wear it.
I have a fantastic Helly Hansen raincoat that I keep at the farm, but it’s. Well. It’s large and boxy, and uninsulated, so not suited to my lifestyle out here, but when it’s wet at the farm it’s fucking pouring rain wet, and it’s fine for that. Just, again, no insulation, so not suitable for winter wear here. IDK where it came from, it was a gift; HH is not cheap.
