All the turkeys on the farm are dead, which fortunately is what we were trying to accomplish.
We still don’t know precisely how many there were, which is a problem because people keep calling asking to know if we have any left, and we’re like, well we’re not sure, they might all be spoken for but we don’t know how many there are. This is hard for people to understand.
Also, for the past week, we’ve had people calling and saying “I’ll be by later today, can I pick up my turkey then?” and we’ve had to, repeatedly, explain to them that if they pick their turkey up before our slaughter date, what they will be taking is a live fucking turkey, because before we slaughter them, the turkeys are alive, and so no, unfortunately, no, the date we listed on the order form for when you pick up your turkeys is a hard deadline because before that time, they will not be dead yet, and after that time, we don’t have space to store them, so when you signed up and we told you Sunday at 2pm we really really truly genuinely meant Sunday at 2pm and no we cannot make an exception just for you because this isn’t the fucking grocery store.
I get that it’s super not how things usually work but the entire point of what we do, here, is that it’s not how things usually work, so please exercise a slight amount of thinking this through and think this the fuck through please.
It’s funny, now, but it’s been a really stressful and shitty week.
BUT. Triumph: at least 165, probably 175, of the turkeys lived long enough for us to kill them, without notable incident, which is, as anyone can tell you, a fuckton of turkeys.
We still have to package nearly 100 of them, but we had to emergency-package about 75 of them yesterday, because we didn’t have room to put them in the chill tanks, so we’ve got a head start.
Off to work!!
