I didn’t even know postblock was a THING you just made my tumblr experience so much better! xx Meg
It is the BEST thing. I could probably handle Tumblr without Blacklist, but PostBlock– at first I didn’t install that extension because I was like ‘oh my wonderful friends never put horribly offensive things on my dash!’ but then some Feelgood Story about, I don’t know, a Deaf person’s Heartwarming Somethingorother Bullshit went viral and it was three screens full of photos, and it was definitely one of those ones that’s, sure, it’s heartwarming, but only if you don’t think about all of the systemic awfulness that brought it to this crisis point where it was only someone’s exceptional hard work that could resolve the situation, I genuinely don’t remember, but I was like
in a single browsing session I saw it ten times, and I was like, what was that extension, I am installing this immediately
and now everyone can just rest easy, go ahead and reblog that five-screens-long photo-heavy rant with bonus totally-not-cited pseudoscience, you can be perfectly confident I hit “j” and PostBlocked it the very first time I saw it. (Ooh also the extremely huge gifsets full of reaction images from fandoms I’m not in and media properties I never consumed?) (also every fucking one of those “that’s an x, you’re thinking of y” threads.) And I’m pretty sure that extension was invented expressly for “do you love the color of the sky?”, which I blocked about six years ago and so all the parodies of it don’t scare me at all.
However. This doesn’t work when browsing on mobile?
So I just don’t look at Tumblr on my phone anymore, is how I solved that one. Sorry! If I don’t have time at my computer, I just don’t look at this site. Which sucks for like, its social purpose as social media, but. Can’t be avoided, given the design of the site and how excessively shitty the app is. (I don’t use the app, it tried to take over my last phone so I uninstalled it and it’s never been on this phone. I use the browser.)
