I had a couple little snippets of the creek’s rise in my Stories yesterday but here’s a proper post, trying to convey the scale. The Quackenkill is at man-killing stage at the moment, two or three feet above normal. The angle I’ve been watching from is right by a concrete overpass so what looks like a small drop is actually usually like fifteen feet. There’s a metal pipe that crosses the stream that’s usually half under and half above the water at this point and it’s totally hidden. And where the little nameless creek that goes past the yurt comes in, it’s usually a charming little trickle of a waterfall, if it’s running on the surface at all (in summer it goes underground part of the way), but right now it’s so full it’s roaring straight in at level.
