every once in a while i remember how my grandfather, god rest his soul, once talked about his plan to start a small tourism business advertising ‘romania’s authentic rural experience’ to westerners. when we asked him for details he shrugged and said ‘i’d remodel the barn slightly to sleep 8-10 people, wake them up at 5 am, put them to work in the field, make them pick and cook their own food and charge them 100 euro/day’. like yeah we still laugh about it but honestly? he was probably on to something there.
I was just commenting on another farm’s Instagram– they were showing a photo of some physically-demanding thing they’d just finished, and I was like…
we’ve got to be able to market this shit to Crossfitters. C’mon, I know people waking up super early to throw tractor tires across parking lots for no reason, there’s got to be a way to hook them up with extremely exhausting farm jobs. We need to hand-pound 300 tomato stakes, can’t we convince some meathead it’s a workout?
