Went to a show last night in Canandaigua, and afterward collapsed at my bestie’s house in Rochester– and Farmsister managed to escape the gravity well of farm stuff to take the train out to Rochester, come to the show with us, and stay overnight, so she could drive back with me! We had time for decadent brunch and a stroll through the Brighton Farmer’s Market, where there were several people Farmsister knew.
It was lovely not to be alone in the car on the drive back. Sister knitted, and then drove for the last hour or so, which was really nice.
Arrived at the farm in time to make dinner, and I went out and looked at the yurt. There were puddles of water on the bed, and my pillows were damp, and the second waterproof layer was soggy too, but the final waterproof layer over the mattress had stayed strong, so I’ve done two loads of laundry of things that got damp and then sat, and can now remake the bed and sleep comfortably. Though the pillows are, well. They remain a little problematic, but I’ll be all right. It’s not supposed to rain for a couple of days, so I’ll have time to get everything put to rights more securely before the next onslaught.
Three of the lesser giant spiders have disappeared, but the giant-est, most beautiful of them is still there and improbably even more gigantic than she was, despite all the roof upheaval, so. She startled the fuck out of me as I came in, but it was mutual, so. I guess I’ll name her after all. I think Jean, for Jean Harlow, the blonde starlette of early cinema. Unless I think of something better.
It is not yet 8pm and I am so sleepy I am most desirous of making my bed up and going to sleep in it. I am going to try to stay awake until 9 but I might not succeed. I am going to try to be up at 5 tomorrow so I can harvest flowers to get a jump start on the week; I’m apprised that the statice bed needs tending, so I’ll likely start there. Except my pruners seem to have been used in my absence and I don’t know where they wound up. That does put a damper on things…
