oh no i stopped moving and now i can’t get moving again

i’m so tired

I did get up at 5:30, but then Whiskey was being so damn cute and snuggly. So I petted her a while, and really wanted to stay in bed because it was 50 degrees out. But, no. I got out of bed.

I accidentally ran into one of the spiders’ webs. (I have three, now?) And it was so cold that the spider in the center of the web didn’t move, she just sat there as part of the web drifted away. I think she was too cold to move!

Which suggests to me that if I want to relocate those guys I should do it next time there’s a really cold night, but. I felt bad taking advantage. She’s okay there, really, as long as I pay attention where I put my shoulders when I get in and out of bed.

I got out to the zinnia patch before 6, and I got a whole bucket of sunflowers and amaranth, and a partial bucket of zinnias and… I don’t know what that stuff’s called, it’s a purple-flowered filler plant of some kind.

We have three rehearsal dinner arrangements to drop off today, two DIY buckets for a wedding, and then an installation wedding Saturday evening, and a wedding who’s picking up the arrangements at the farmer’s market. (She just wanted the regular bouquets like we make, just, ten of them all the same size, so that’s what she’s getting.)

And then the market. This is the time of year to make money off flowers.

But the installation wedding– well, it’s an Indian couple, or at least the wife-to-be is from India (and it’s going to be at the nearby museum of contemporary art, which sounds rad as fuck), and one of the things she wanted was to have these four big planters to be the kind of corners of… I’m not sure what, but you know how in Jewish weddings, they have like a canopy thing that goes over the couple, well, in whichever tradition of India she’s part of, they have a thing like that, but she was going to use these four planters as the corners to kind of symbolize this ceremonial structure, rather than, like, building a tent or something. And Farmsister got these planters, and very conscientiously planted them with things that would mature beautifullly for this time of year, and they looked absolutely gorgeous a month ago. And then we had this heat and drought, and the things in it just… bolted. Everything got leggy, the foliage crisped up, they just– they don’t look absolutely horrible? But they don’t look at all like she intended. She should have moved them into the shade during the heatwave, but she didn’t think of it; they’re quite large and heavy, and had been stationed alongside the cold frame.

So now we’re trying to figure out what else to do. Even if it entails just… buying some petunias from our friends down the street who have a farmstand. Sis is beating herself up for not realizing the planters wouldn’t handle the heat, but she’s literally never grown things in pots so she just plain forgot. “I need a container-garden mentor,” she moaned, surveying the wreckage.

Everything else is on track to be fine, though. (Including the containers for the next wedding that wanted something similar, which all look amazing– but they were more recently planted, and these are just plastic pot inserts so they could sit on the bench next to the seedlings to be transplanted, and so whoever was doing the greenhouse watering never missed them, as clearly did happen to the big planters.)

But we harvested all morning too, and we’re going to have to harvest all morning tomorrow, and then arrange all afternoon. We’ll get it done, we’re just not going to have a ton of rest.

At the moment, Sis has run off to dig something out of the garden and ponder some more on those planters, but I should go find her.

In a minute. I just… I shouldn’t have sat down.
