On the one hand, shudder. On the other hand, maybe she’ll keep mosquitoes down
That’s my hope. There are already fewer, or seem to be, though that might be the dry weather. I mean, I hear them, and i see them around, but I don’t get so bitten, so. Here’s hoping.
Actually I’m realizing I think I encountered this spider before. The last night I was here, before the previous week, I discovered a smallish orb weaver inside my mosquito net as I was setting it up. I was like, “No, sis, the whole idea is there aren’t bugs in here also how did you get in here???” and gently removed her. She didn’t want to go, so I had to use a pint glass, carefully, and then fling her out the hole between the sidewall and the roof. I expect she didn’t really go, and climbed back in, because this one’s the same size and same kind.
Also once I demolished her web next to the lamp, she disappeared, and then I woke up and there was yet another one, the same exact size, in a great spot near the head of my bed, where there’s no way for me to lean into it, quite near the mosquito net where I first found her.
I think all three sightings were the same spider. I almost wish that I had some way of marking an individual… which is ridiculous, you say, except. One of the CSA customers confided that she’s got a little aquarium with garden snails, and she’s marked their shells with tiny dots of Sharpie so she can give them individual names.

I dunno, what do spiders do when you’ve offended them? I was kind of being topical. Reflecting the zeitgeist. I dunno. It seemed funny in my just-had-a-spider-web-entangle-my-face stupor.
I guess no spider cops came, so I need a new theory.
Maybe it’s not too late. Maybe I can befriend her. Be all, listen I knew your mom and she was chill.
