reblog please, this might save someone’s life!!
Be aware that if you are injured and need help, no one will be able to get in to you without heavy demolition. Use something like this, sure, but see how hard it is to remove it from the floor, or if you’re dizzy or disoriented– could you unfasten it? Could you remember to do so?
The house I live in has those little chain locks on every door that goes to the outside. But none of them are at the usual height. They’re all about eighteen inches off the floor.
That’s because the house’s last owner was an elderly woman who lived alone, and she fell several times and broke her hip on more than one occasion.
The chain locks are positioned so that she could reach them from the floor. She’d still have to drag herself to the door, but if she couldn’t get up, she could still let rescuers in to help her. Her nieces had keys to her house, and she could open the nearest chain lock from the floor. I suspect she kept a telephone on a low table so she could summon help.
Please, protect yourself, but be aware, especially if you have any medical conditions, or there’s any reason someone would need to come in and help you.
