there’s a tab for replies to the left of your “dash”, and they are working on email notifs right now:)
Yes, I found the replies tab, and have gone on at length since then about its shortcomings (you must be seeing this entry very out of context, which, well, that’s how Tumblr works so why would I be surprised), but I saw that latest update from Staff as well so I am one thousand percent confident they’ve heard all about it without my input.
I’m a little startled that it took four waves of beta users before someone was like “… wait it doesn’t email you when someone comments? as is standard on literally every other form of discussion-facilitating website for the last thirty years? Maybe… it should.” but I mean. Clearly I have never coded a social media website from scratch so who knows what basic functionality I would have forgotten.
Also that same staff entry explained that not all replies show up in the reply tab– if someone replies to a reply on your post, you don’t get that second one– and I was at first like “shit what have I missed” but then I remembered that the replies dashboard is functionally useless except as display so as long as I clicked through to reply to the reply it showed me, I’d’ve seen any other replies too. However, adding in replies-to-replies to the dashboard is likely to just make things even more confusing, since that dashboard gives you no context at all and so it won’t be clear what those reply-to replies are in response to unless you click through, but since it’s a display you can’t interact with anyway it probably doesn’t matter.
So there’s the good news– eventually, you will get email notifications of comments to your blog, on Pillowfort! And it won’t matter that the replies dash is read-only and not for actually answering and actually hasn’t given you context so unless you’re super good at remembering every discussion you’re involved in it’s not much good to you, because you can just get email notifs and bypass the useless dashboard anyway.
Also yesterday I managed to upload a photo, for the first time, and my browser totally spazzed out for a moment but then settled down and it posted correctly! Progress.
This all seems very snarky, but I do actually genuinely enjoy pillowfort and I wish more people were using it and I’d love to find more people to follow but don’t know where to start, so if you’re on there, hit me up!
