Sigh. I forgot my cellphone at home. I know it’s on the couch. I know I meant to pick it up. I just didn’t.

Mostly, nobody texts me, and it’s no big deal, but just watch today be a day some emergency happens and nobody can figure out why I don’t care. *eyeroll*

Today being June 1 it is also the day we are allowed access to the possible new space my camera store job might be relocating to. See, there are two locations for the store locally, one right near my house and one half an hour away, and when I first went to apply, I got my application all ready and was about to go drop it off at the one near my house when I realized that the job posting actually was for the one half an hour away. Figuring I could always transfer later, I hauled my butt allllll the way out to the middle of nowhere.

That was 2007, and i never did transfer. I have worked a few shifts at the one near my house, but– the online department is run out of the one far away, and i wriggled my way into the online department because they got to sit down sometimes, and i wanted to try that.

Since then I’ve wriggled my way in there exclusively and don’t do shifts on the sales floor anymore, which is the reason I’m still here– the sales floor, it really matters when you’re there, right? but online, really we only need a person and a half, and it literally doesn’t matter when the “half” is present, so that’s the deal I’ve got.

Anyway, the online department could move to the store near my house, because the landlord just offered them the shitty space upstairs for real cheap because they can’t keep a tenant up there. And since it’s so cheap, they figure they could put their classes and studio equipment up there. It’s inaccessible, though– it’s up a flight of stairs, and there’s no elevator, and I asked if that was legal under the ADA, but nobody knows and we don’t know how to find out. “If someone who can’t climb stairs wants to take a class they can just let us know,” said the manager of the store-by-my-house, and I was like “that’s not how accessibility works” but then I considered it some more and was like “well actually in the real world that winds up being how accessibility works” and I just sort of gave up.

So it’s up a flight of stairs and the manager of the store by my house is the only one who’s seen it and he’s like “yeah it’s great you guys will love it there” and me and the other guy in the online department are like… this is the guy that thinks “just call us” means “disabled-accessible” so… I mean, he’s not an idiot, but he’s also got… different… values, maybe. (He’s been good buds with my department-mate for like two or three decades and is the reason he has the job, so it’s not like we don’t like him, and don’t trust him, we just think, uh, maybe he doesn’t value the same things we do. He was like “there’s a kitchen sorta room, you’ll want to set up in there” and my dept-mate is like “uh maybe we’d want… an office? to do office things?” and he’s also like ‘we’ll just run an extension cord up the stairs for the internet it’ll be great’ and we’re like “maybe… since that’s our entire business… we could get our own connection???”)

Anyway. It would be really great if we could just move into this space because not only is it 2 miles from my house instead of 12, they’re also closing most of the street I take the entire 12 miles to work for the months of June, July, August, September, and October, so my commute either becomes sit-in-traffic-til-i-die or drive-six-more-miles-out-of-my-way and either way goes from half an hour to More.

Ugh.

Anyhow. I dunno whether we’ll go over to look at that at any point today. It’d be keen if we did but it’d also be a big waste of time. Maybe we can arrange to go over at the end of the day, or something. I wouldn’t mind that, then I’d be basically home!

Can you imagine– I could bike to work? IDK, I haven’t been on a bicycle in years, but I could probably work it out. That’d be… something.

(Song-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, which I plan to visit in September, is at 10,000 feet elevation, and if I’m not more active by then I might just keel spontaneously over.)

But if the space really sucks, I don’t want to have gotten my hopes up.
