Aww! My parents tell a similar story about me as a toddler, trying to death-grip a set of Mickey ears at Disney World and eventually losing my vigilance.
I wound up following her as she dozed on her mother’s shoulder while we walked down the street, with my hand under the pink stuffed kitty. I took it once when it fell, but she woke and NEEDED it back, so I gave it back and then had to follow her the rest of the way.
She did let me collect the rock she’d been gripping in her other hand, though.
