the hadestown album is fucking great
I listened to the album and then also to the original cast recording and that got me about 200 of my 300 miles today so that was something. Orpheus and Eurydice, but what I’d always liked about that myth is that Hades is like, the opposite of a swindler? and I didn’t like the vibe in this where he was like, scheming, kind of a huckster. I just have this really solid impression in my head of the lord of the dead being, like. Implacable and like. Unable to lie. You know? But I guess that was more of an individual ideal than I’d realized; I hadn’t ever worked out that I was bringing so much of myself to it. I guess it makes sense in our cultural context that the lord of the underworld would be a capitalist billionaire type.
It was beautiful and compelling music, though, I’ll definitely give it that.
