mm mm my queue is running dry and i’m Uninspired.
Farm next week, which means I got to get my shit together this week. Yurt is supposed to go up at some point this coming week, because I need it to be up by the week of the 22nd, because that’s an insane week: first chicken slaughter is on the 22nd, my coworker is on vacation until the 21st so I’m going to have to drive out late at night, B-I-L’s dad is visiting that week and will be occupying the guest room so I’ll have nowhere to stay on the farm if I don’t have the yurt up, AND, drumroll please, that Thursday I’m going up to Montreal with my bestie and her husband and kids for the weekend. Everything happens so much. Which adds the complication: Dude is going to come out with me to the farm, #1 to help driving since it’ll be a late night followed by an early morning, and #2 because otherwise he’d have to drive out separately or take a train or something complicated just two days later and that seems dumb, and #3 because my nefarious plan to have him come work remote from the farm worked out beautifully during the winter and he had a good time, ha ha ha ha haaa. So.
But that means not only do I need to get the yurt set up this week, I also need to get it set up to the standard of having a second person sleep in it. Which isn’t any real additional problem, it just means that I can’t leave piles of junk in it. Which I already can’t! It’s a terrible idea to let anything non-waterproof touch the floor in there, or touch the walls. So I need to get the furniture set up and hung up and all of it.
I’m going to put it up with the autumn insulation in it and see if that doesn’t make it more comfortable year-round. It might well!
So we’ll see. But there’s a lot to do next week, and I’m getting stressed about getting myself ready this week. I’m trying to make lists of things to pack. *Most of* the yurt stuff is stored in the granary attic, but some of it migrated back to my house, and it just figures I’ll have thrown something crucial into my car and forgotten about it and I’ll be setting up and be like “ok where’s the important doohickey” and it’s in my fucking linen closet in Buffalo or something. So.
Really I should have gone through the stuff in the granary attic last time I was at the farm but there wasn’t time and also it doesn’t make a ton of sense to do that with everything in situ. I can’t take a proper inventory unless I remove it.
So I’ll just have to have faith that everything actually crucial is already there, and if there’s something important in Buffalo I’ll be able to just bring it out when I go next time.
