I spent yesterday totally immersed in rereading The Serpent Sea and The Siren Depths, mostly while at work, and you’d be amazed by a) how much I still got done at work (i had the kindle sitting on the desk next to me while I did all my workday tasks and I can’t believe that actually worked) and b) how good it was at un-sticking my stupid brain. I have a billion worldbuilding ideas now for that stupid solarpunk novel that I couldn’t stop thinking about until I let myself start working on it whereupon it vanished. I feel so much better now and I have so much more of a clear path to having ideas, you know?? It’s like taking a bath, but for your imagination.

So. You know. It’s not always maladaptive to bury yourself in books. Maybe, just maybe, I could buy myself some new books this summer… Maybe. We’ll see!

(I followed it up with a nightcap of The Dark Earth Below, which is in one of her short story collections and is the story of how Moon and Jade’s kids are finally born, with of course a bonus shapeshifter Invisible Man action adventure horror thriller thrown in because of course.)
