My base put us on a two-hour delay so they could clear the roads and parking lots…and then realized that wasn’t going to happen in time, so they closed us at 9 am. Which worked for me because I had to stay home with kids, but two of my employees were already on their way in and had to deal with the shitty roads anyway, only to turn around. Be safe!

for a while when i was a kid we had a school superintendent who wouldn’t call snow days until like… after all the cafeteria staff and bus drivers had already reported. it sucked.
better than the previous superintendent, who was from out here (Western NY), where it’s flat and not that icy and gets a shitload of snow in big dumps, and was like “i won’t call off for less than a foot of snow!” and then found out that guess what, in the eastern part of the state we mostly don’t get snow in feet, we get black ice. a school bus full of kids went off a mountain road and she changed her tune right quick. (fortunately no one died or was badly hurt.)
i just hate when… maybe it’s because i see it on Twitter, but Gov. Cuomo is always like “no unnecessary travel, stay home folks, there’s no reason to be out” and it’s like… bitch most of us don’t get paid if we don’t report, and many of us can be fired at will if we don’t report, so shut your fucking sanctimonious mouth if you’re not going to get any legislation about that passed.
It wasn’t all that bad today, and it’s warmer than it has been lately. We actually went out of our own free will after work. But man I miss being the kind of person who got snow days. They just don’t happen anymore.
I think the last snow day I got was circa 2006, and that wasn’t so much a snow day so much as it was “state of emergency no power for a week” kind of deal.
