My own project list is just as bad, although I have fewer raw materials lying around. I did buy two Ikea cabinets to store all the crap… and I ran out of energy assembling them and haven’t gotten around to shoving the crap into the cabinets.
I didn’t mention the box with six whole deer hides in the basement, and the Teach Yourself Leatherworking book and the box of leatherworking needles… I got those last summer I think, but maybe the summer before. (The deer hides were a free score from a huge collection of cameras we bought at work. I assume the guy bought the hides to repair camera cases or who even knows; they’re antique, but not cracked. I cleaned one or two with leather soap and found that they’re workable and un-moldy. So clearly I need to make something, but what??)
I bought six floor-to-ceiling wire shelving units from Target a full three years ago, and have shoved boxes onto… three of them… That’s my basement, just all shelving units. I tried labeling those boxes but sometimes the labels aren’t… well, this one says “stretchy fabric– small cuts” which is descriptive but not informative. This one says “things to make into other things” and contains a random assortment of clothing. Hrm.
I also have fabric to make insulated drapes for the living room and bedroom, which I’ve now owned for ten years. I’d thought I’d use it for the yurt quilts but I wound up having plenty of salvaged drapes for that instead. I should really make those drapes for the living room, but. Maybe we’ll get the window redone instead, it’s the original 50s glazing on a picture window, it’s not in great shape.
And. I mean. I don’t need to get into it, not really.
But I did an Unfuck Your Habitat-style timer session, and am on a timed break. I don’t remember what times she suggests, so I’m just doing 25 on and 20 off. It sort of helps because I do ADHD things but remember I’m supposed to be working, at least.
So far, hm. I’ve. Put away dirty dishes, put in a load of delicates in the washer, folded and put away several towels, pet the cat, got the cat to eat a treat (I am Forgiven!), assembled a box for the Fuck Winter quilt, uncovered the Shitpost Jacket In Progress, assembled a box for the Farm Map Quilt, started a T-Shirts To Surgeryify box, found another Surgery box already started, found the Fuck Winter hand embroidery that started it all, found my stash of completed hand embroideries I never did anything with (yay!), found a box of clothing I cut apart into reusable pieces already and sorted it into non-stretch and stretch fabric (the stretch went into the t-shirt-surgery box; any fabric with stretch is going to go into t-shirt dresses)…
I might be about to get sat on by the cat, so I should move. She’d like it if that was all I did all day.
I’ve also found several garments that are part of my current wardrobe that I’d been looking for, so that’s cool.
I can do this, though. I can get shit done. I can at least find the projects I wanted to work on imminently, and restore the living room to at least the level of cleanliness it was before I… ha, before this past season in the yurt. Every time I come back from the farm shit gets thrown into a pile because I have no free time either here or there so nothing can be assessed, worked on, or put away between May and November, and then I can’t progress from November through the holidays because of the camera store job, and then it’s January and I hate everything. So there’s a cycle identified. Whatever good that’ll do.
Oh dear, Chita. I have to move before you get comfortable.
