Clarification: the assault of over 160 CHILDREN. As far as I could tell, following the case, few to none of his victims were of legal age to consent at the time of the abuse. (And, even if they had been, he had not asked for consent, and in all cases told them it was medical treatment he was administering, even when it was (as all of it was) uncomfortably sexual, relying on their trust of him and innocence, being minor children and therefore clearly not equipped to understand or consent to any of it, to conceal what he was doing.)
CHILDREN. (It would still be ridiculous had they been grown women, but. It adds a layer of outrage that they were not.)
And he said this in a letter regarding his GUILTY PLEA. He had ALREADY PLED GUILTY. And he STILL felt justified in arguing that while he was guilty, he wasn’t THAT guilty, because these– CHILDREN– were just mad and wanted money??? and fame??? for some reason??? and so the judge should sentence him leniently because these– CHILDREN – were in some way… scorned women? Like… were they… I don’t know. Jealous that he’d gone on to molest literally dozens of other children, in many cases right in front of them?? As if the getting molested thing were something they’d be territorial about??? Or what??? I mean, I don’t get where the “scorned” idea is coming from?
No fucking wonder the judge threw the fucking book at him.
(Because these CHILDREN had not gotten enough fame from being LITERALLY THE ENTIRE OLYMPIC SQUAD somehow?? and facing down six-figure fines for defying actual gag orders prohibiting them from testifying against him???)
He still really felt like this was going to be an argument he could in any way expect to have taken seriously if he made it. He really did. It’s unreal. And there’s people who are mad that judge was so harsh on him.
