Score one for me actually doing a thing!!

I was mentioning to my mother-not-in-law that I was having real trouble with my embroidery machine. It sometimes was working well, but often, VERY often, the bobbin thread comes up and shows on the front of the design. I’d Googled to find out what to do about it, and everyone said “oh it means the tension’s turned up too high, take it off auto and turn it down.”

Problem was, there’s no lower number than 0, and that was literally the first thing I tried, to no avail.

She said ah, one of the local quilt shops is doing one of those tune-up-your-machine specials on Saturday the 20th! Take it in and get it cleaned, they’ll adjust the tension, maybe they can tell you what’s wrong!

So I did.

The shop owner or someone, a man, took one look at the example I’d brought of how it wasn’t sewing well, and said, “Well,” with an air of great certainty, “what kind of bobbin thread are you using?”

I’d thought of that, though, and had researched it as soon as I took the machine out of its box. “It came with a spool,” I said, “so I went online and bought the same thing.” Brother branded embroidery bobbin thread. He looked at it, said hm, and went away, and came back with a spool of something the exact same weight/specifications, but four times the price.

“This will fix it,” he said, and gave me the $10 spool. “It has an opposite-direction twist, and locks against the upper thread better.”

“OK,” I said, “thanks,” a little skeptical, but I still left my machine there, because “but the tension doesn’t actually adjust when you turn the knob, so I still think that might need some looking at.”

“Oh, sure,” he said.

It was free if I spent $40 at the shop.

I spent $70, largely because my good rotary cutter has been missing for literally a year and I know I will not find it unless I replace it.

So. It was free. We’ll see if I get my machine running today or not. I almost don’t want to know. But that’s the only thing I could think of to do. I have so many projects to do and I’m just so tired of never being able to actually do the things I imagine.
