So the number 1 thing about the Kyrgyz Republic is that they speak Kyrgyz there and that’s not on Duolingo and also there’s not very much about it on the Internet, so. Jot that down, I guess.
The other thing is that they use the Cyrillic alphabet and mostly are passingly familiar with Russian.
Dude had just told me before this conversation that he’d made his New Year’s Resolution this year, and it was to finally make it through his textbook on Learning To Speak/Read Latvian, which he dabbled in last year. (He told me about his desire to actually go to the Nomad Games this year when I asked him if that meant we were going to go to Latvia, which is a sane and reasonable thing to ask, I think.)
I looked at him, and he looked at me, and he said, “I’m not fucking learning Russian.”
So. Uh. привет, ребята, что?
(I’m not learning Russian either but I feel like I gotta at least master Cyrillic and some basic words.)
