Eek. I didn’t reblog anything on it because just… no. The killer doesn’t need that kind of attention from me. Ugh. Ow.

Honey, I am so sorry, for you and your town.

I’m so sorry :(
It is awful. It’s awful for everyone. So far I don’t think I know anyone involved. It’s so much worse than I’d assumed when all I knew was “quadruple murder”.
The first news stories were so weirdly cagey, too. I guess the landlord or property manager made the grisly discovery, and called it in as “four unconscious people”, and like. Knowing what’s now been explained, that’s some massive denial there– that poor person. I can’t imagine.
I don’t know what’s to be done. The news story was– I mean, that’s not a local source, I’m hesitant to go find the local paper’s story on it. The police chief quoted, I do know of him, and he’s not got a great record on racial sensitivity etc, but at least he’s horrified to inarticulacy, that’s an indicator that he’s not going to be a shit about this at least. But Autostraddle, to say “there’s an LGBT community across the river in Albany”– come on, that’s not really fair. There’s not much of *anything* in Troy, because if there are going to be resources, they’re going to be in Albany, that’s just it. The Unitarians, for example; all of them who live in Troy have to go to across the river for services because the nearest congregation is in Albany. Everything works like that. There’s LGBT advocacy in Troy, it just all operates under the auspices of Albany because fucking everything does. Everyone just assumes that if you’re in Troy, you’ll just commute to Albany. That’s how everything works.
But I expect the community must be shocked and horrified. Hopefully it’s a one-off thing and everyone can collect around it. I just– i don’t know. I’m not involved enough to know.
I know a lot of LGBT people in Troy. My high school had one of the early Gay-Straight Alliances. Every national news story makes us sound like a bunch of backwoods hicks, which is just not true. I love how in a two-paragraph story they managed to throw in a stat about the Troy Metro area’s Trump votership. Way to shorthand the implied context.
But it’s horrible and I don’t know how else to contemplate it, so that’s all just a bunch of whining. I’ll have to find out what’s being done. I just don’t know.
OK I broke down and looked up the Times-Union, which is the Albany paper (see? see? there’s a newspaper in Troy but nobody reads it because it’s not much good, all the resources go to the Albany one so we just read that one) and it’s a much better, more sensitive, much more human-focused story. I’ll post that as a freestanding link. It even has information on how to help. It’s about a million times better than the sensationalized clickbait shit that’s all I’d seen so far on this hellsite.
