Idk ultimately after a while I feel like treating star wars as a bastion of antifash w/e is pointless because you’re just depending on corporations to tell a story of resistance which like…that’s a fucking paradox man, they’re not going to do that. It’s just people projecting ideologies on to these corporatized entities - and sometimes there’s depth to it and sometimes there isn’t - and that’s not something that’s going to get you anything meaningful in the long run. Like, big corporations are not your friend. You want stories about resistance, delve into smaller scale publishing and media production. Delve into media produced outside of the US Hollywood system. Colonialism has had the one useful (sarcasm) benefit of making English a common enough lingua franca outside the anglo saxon world that there are non-anglo Saxon writers writing in English. And translations involve slippage but my god, read, I beg you, read outside the anglo-saxon sphere. As long as you remain inside that sphere of cultural consumption, you are going to get, one way or the other, stories that reinforce a certain ideology and hegemony unless you delve into genuinely alternate publishing/media production.
