Again, I’m not going to publish an anon ask that’s mostly just swearing, but– so the first one was just telling me I’m responsible for all the racism that exists in Star Wars, and it’s no surprise because I associate with someone who is apparently the worst racist in the fandom, which are both startling assertions. But– let me get this straight–

the central thesis of this second ask is that The Last Jedi is inferior to A New Hope, because A New Hope wasn’t racist???

I honestly didn’t pick up on a great deal of racism in TLJ in general, and am not aware of any serious critiques about it, so I may just be ignorant about it– I haven’t read many reviews of the work, just a lot of vagueing, and while I surely understand that there are some concerns, I also accept that it’s perfectly possible I missed something, and so did the various critics whose reviews I agreed with.

But overall, no, I have to disagree with you. It is better, I think, to have there be women and people of color in a work, than not at all; yes, they have to get it right, but I do feel like they got it right enough to be worthwhile representation in most of the instances? I do not believe ANH is better for having had 0 representation, which seems to be what you’re arguing.

You should really stop sending asks, you just seem to be getting upset; now it’s not just that I apparently have a racist associate of some stripe, but that I myself am the chief racist.

Listen. I am a person, and I write stories, and not very many people read them. That is the sum total of my involvement in this fandom. I can always strive to improve my own stories, but I cannot really do anything about the level of racism in the actual canon source material.

I am truly sorry that other fans have found so much to object to in TLJ, and I do not mean to tell them they can’t feel that way. I’m not trying to dismiss people’s feelings, I just wanted to write a review about how the movie struck me.
