so to board the cat for christmas we have to have her shots up to date
while we were getting her shots they were like uh she’s kind of… elderly now… should we do bloodwork and see if she’s otherwise healthy?
so they did that, we agreed to it, and it was like three hundred dollars but ok, she’s our furbaby
so that all came back, and she has a mild bladder infection so we gotta put her on antibiotics, ok i wonder how long that’s been going on.
and oh. she has hyperthyroidism.
great.
that’s fine, it’s treatable, but it’s not curable. so now i gotta find out if my cat will take pills. she never has, so maybe. but she doesn’t care about treats so i can’t give them to her as treats.
sigh. she’s completely not food-motivated.
i can’t even give myself regular pills, how am I going to give my cat two pills a day????? ????? ????? ??????
also I have no idea how much that’s going to cost and i don’t want to know.
(I’m not much worried, apart from that, because one of my beloved childhood cats had hyperthyroidism, and it did eventually kill him, but he was also 20 by the time it did, and that’s a hell of a run for a cat, and he was healthy to the end too– he got skinny, but he never suffered. He went from puttering around and drinking puddles and enjoying the outdoors to being Suddenly Poorly to dying in his sleep within two days. As cats go, that’s not a bad way.)
