Not to advocate lying, but go to a different vet. Tell them you just got your cat and she probably needs her shots. You can even say you got her from a friend who didn’t keep her up-to-date and that you want to fix that. Doesn’t fix the phone call issue, but might help you dread it slightly less!
That was my plan. But this vet is like. less than a quarter mile away. i would feel so dumb driving my cat 20 minutes away to the next-nearest vet with her screaming the whole time when the other vet is right there.

In England ALL cats go outside, they won’t let you adopt until you fit a cat flap! So their judgment of your cat care standards is geographically EXTREMELY subjective and by no means a moral absolute
Thank you!! I grew up with outdoor cats. I always felt like this hardly counts– Chita just goes into our backyard, and occasionally ventures father, but she’s a Scaredy Cat and comes right back. She spends 99.9% of her time crouched under a specific bush in our back yard looking at the fence. But she got into a fight with another cat– we broke them up right away but she got a cut, so we brought her in to the vet. And she’d hidden it from us, as cats do, so we didn’t see it until the next day, and they acted like we were Neglectful and Also Evil, and insisted on describing in great detail a cat they’d recently had to put down who’d been savaged by a dog. I was like, I do not need to hear about that, I have had cats my whole life and lost one to being hit by a car, I know what can happen to them but I also know she was going insane stuck inside our house and she just wanted to go into the yard and it’s not her fault our neighbor’s cat is an asshole.

I HATE making Those Phone Calls :( and if it’s any consolation, we have three chihuahuas and I’m a shitty dog mom to them ALL.
I love my cat! And I hate making her suffer! I had her vaccinated when she was a baby, I had her fixed, she’s never forgiven me, I would take her in if she got sick. I try my best. I’m sure you try your best too. We can’t all be perfect. The car stresses her out so much, I hate doing it, and she hates the vet, and I just. I want to be good. But it’s hard. And people are sanctimonious dicks. I can see being a dick to someone who’s got a pet they’re ignorant of how to properly care for and don’t care to find out how to do it right, or who they mistreat or won’t accept that they can’t properly care for– but she is a cat, she is well-fed, she is healthy, yikes. I would love a more care-intensive pet but I know I don’t have the time/$$.

you could look into finding someone to look after the kitty with rover. i’m currently sitting through there and it’s an easy way to find sitters with no phone calls required (just text). you can hire a house sitter or just someone to do drop-ins periodically. probably cheaper and less stressful than boarding her at the vet! if you go to my profile http://ift.tt/2C4nzA3 and use my code- VERYGOODDOGS20 you can get $20 off your booking. Hope that helps!
There are so many different pet minding services!!! There’s one around here where they’ll come and sit with your pet for x minutes a day, on up through one where they’ll move into your house and live there without touching your stuff, just so your pet is cared for. My mind is blown.
I don’t want anyone to see how I live, though, so I’m really thinking having her boarded is the way to go. I don’t want to board her at the vet, though, because she haaaaaaates the vet.
ANYWAY:
It turns out the vet’s office has an online registration form, which Dude actually knew and for some reason thought I’d click through and find out even though he was texting me on my phone at work and I don’t generally click links to complex websites on my phone at work? So I flipped out and had an anxiety freakout and only after all that was he like oh there’s a form.
Anyway. I made him do it while I made dinner.
We’ll see if they’re dicks to us, but at least they won’t be a dick to me over the phone. If they’re dicks, I’ll be there with Dude.
I just ordered a very blingy cat collar on Amazon and some flea medication because I’m not buying it from the vet. Also my cat doesn’t have fleas. I’d know if she did. (Dude never lived on a farm. I spent my childhood constantly dealing with flea infestations. I’m not particularly alarmed by them. Especially not with modern flea medicines.) But you have to have treated the cat for the boarding place, and I figure I’ll dose her right before we bring her in, because then they can see that I did. (The kind you put on their necks leaves a mark.)
<3 <3 <3 <3 to everyone who said nice stuff, I needed to hear some nice stuff, I was very upset and it turns out I didn’t need to be but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t upset.
