oh weird moment from this morning.
so i picked up M-O-L at 4:45 am and was driving through the streets of the city of Buffalo to get onto the highway to get to the airport, and as we were coming down Parkside there was a Buffalo PD SUV sitting at a side street with literally no lights on, nothing indicating the car was running, and the officer had his head out the window and was talking to a paper delivery kid. Couldn’t see much, it was dark, but the kid was roughly adult-size, if skinny, and in a hoodie. I stopped at the stopsign, disconcerted by the completely-dark car, but he clearly wasn’t intending to go through the intersection, so I proceeded.
he pulled out behind me, still completely dark, and I drove really slowly and watched him in my rearview until he turned down the next street.
wtf though. I’m so used to cars having running lights that turn on automatically that it was deeply, deeply disconcerting to me to see a car moving in the total darkness without a single light on.
(There are no streetlights in that neighborhood, or at least not that stretch of Parkside right there, so it was really weird. It was right by the school, like a block north of Hertel, just before that weird like five-way-stop intersection.)
