Successfully took Mother-Out-Law to the airport this morning.

Here’s the thing, it’s easier the second day. I went to bed early last night, because I was exhausted since I’d been up since 4:15. (And honestly, I got so much done in the morning? I thought I wouldn’t, but I did a ton of dishes and laundry and cleaning and it was great.) And so this morning I popped up ten minutes before my 4:15 alarm, went and got ready, was super cheerful.

Poor M-O-L was groggy and bleary-eyed, up late triple-checking [at 10pm she realized she’d left her credit card at her sister’s house, had to go get it in her PJs], couldn’t sleep, got almost no rest, and was so apologetic, but really, if I had to do this all the time I wouldn’t mind. It was so much easier today!

I got to work at, uh, 5:30 am though, even after stopping for breakfast, so…

I didn’t clock in until 6am. Nobody but me remembers, nearly a decade ago now, we had an employee who’d turn up early for his shift every day, and that was great, he’d tidy the store and get the machines up to temp and so on, and nobody minded it until… it turned out he’d been stealing things during that alone time. Oh. So we had A New Rule, nobody could be Early, nobody could Stay Late, nobody could be in the store when we weren’t open. I was so conscientious about this rule for like, nine years, until I realized literally nobody else remembered but me, or cared, so.

So I got permission to come in super early, and was set up with a project that’d go more smoothly with nobody around, and have been working on that.

But the first thing I did, after clocking in at 6, was to clean and sanitize the counters out on the retail floor because everyone else who works here is a slightly grubby dude and we are going to kill some little old lady with bird flu from our disgusting self-serve photo kiosks, which I know everyone thinks I’m crazy for going on about but I swear to Christ, it’s such a vector for disease and I won’t stand for it.

Nobody minds me being mental about it, though, if that means I clean it. So I do. I’m on the damn clock, I don’t care. I used the company card to buy cleaning products, and I got spray sanitizer, and I hit the computer mouses with it whenever I’m here and the store’s not open. So everything is goddamn disinfected and I feel much better about the world.

Now, back to eBay listings…
