Ireland made me happy cry. This is. Not that.
I mean, for one thing, as of tomorrow the Senate starts arguing over the actual bill, so we don’t yet know what horrid concessions in the name of ‘religious freedom’ we might have to accept. Some of the proposed concessions not only grant private businesses the right to be dicks to gay fiancées, but also the right to ‘act on’ beliefs like ‘sex should not happen outside of marriage between a man and a woman’, which sure does make me feel alarmed as a person who occasionally books accommodation to share with people I’m not married to.
Yes, that’s what I meant– like, what a load of emotional stress, and I was astonished to find that I’d been apparently in suspense about the result, and angry that it was something that there was a suspenseful result about, you know?
I think a lot of things are Getting To Me of late, and that was definitely one of them. I don’t think I have to elaborate on the trash fire that is my own country’s political situation, though; I totally get that the rest of the world is already pretty much hostage to that fucking disaster. (And, I mean, specifically we’re waiting on our newly-stacked Supreme Court to decide whether businesses can legally discriminate and void all the anti-discrimination laws we already have, so.)
But– that’s what I meant. Solidarity, not just cheering.
