I saw a tutorial on how to make your own oilcloth that involved mixing 1:1 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, and then either dipping the cloth into it or brushing it across the cloth, and then hanging it on a clothesline until it dries, and I want to do that but am procrastinating.
I have some undyed bull denim I could do it with, and it’s dumb to hoard the fabric; I’m not going to make a tablecloth out of pieced material.
But what if it turns out dumb? And shouldn’t I dye the fabric first?
No. I’m going to have an offwhite oilcloth tablecloth. (This is just me telling myself that.)
Why not? Either it’ll stay whiteish-colored, and the oil will make it stainproof so it won’t matter, or it’ll get stained by the oil. Either way, I’m trying to make a functional thing here, and we’ll find out how it turns out.
If it turns out awful I’ll use it as a floor cloth in the yurt.
