Hey, glad I could help. I’m just so angry that they’re, like, stealthy about it. If they said like on the front page or something, “we’re proud to be Catholic and not support life-saving medicine because Jesus who” or whatever (I mean I’m sure they could make it sound better than that), but literally, they don’t mention it anywhere obvious. And I was just on the NYS healthcare page, and they have all the plans listed, and Fidelus is the highest-rated, but nowhere does it explain those ratings. (Shadier still: the overall plan has five stars, and when you click, it opens up to show the individual ratings, and they have two stars for women’s healthcare, and huh, two stars for children’s care, and two stars for a bunch of other stuff, and I’m no math whiz but even setting aside the fact that where those stars come from is literally never explained, how do all those two-star ratings add up to five?) (Also how can you get two out of five stars for women’s healthcare when you’re not allowed any family planning? I noted they had a dismal maternity care rating too, which, like, way to be pro-life there guys.) (Literally their only four-and-a-half star rating was mental health, which would be nice but how are you gonna stabilize my wild monthly mood swings if you can’t even try regulating my hormones??)
Neither Excellus nor MVP are available to me, but Independent wrote back to me on Twitter and were the only ones who weren’t cagey about “well plan details vary” when I said “simple yes/no: is birth control considered healthcare?” so I intend to research more but let’s be real here, I’m probably just going to go with them.
All health insurance companies exist to cheat you. That’s literally how they work. I know it’s a question of picking a lesser evil. Good luck with yours not being evil.
