Part of it, though, is just– it’s just– relief.
I know we can’t actually hang all our hopes on this, but my whole life I’ve just sort of had this underlying belief that someone, somewhere in the massive bureaucracy and assorted federal and state apparatus of the United States must be competent at what they do. Someone. Even if there are no adults left to step in at the higher levels of government, even if there are no adults in the motherfucking legislative branch, there must be adults somewhere.
And to know that yes, in fact, there are, and this weaponized incompetence at the very least has a stopping point somewhere, where some legitimate authority is going to be able to put its foot down and say you’re done…
But how thin are our margins of safety, after all. How sobering it is to know how weak the bonds of normalcy really are. Because, while this nincompoop was a complete idiot, he got as far as he did for as long as he did.
He’d better get his, and punishingly, but will that really be enough to stem the tide of all these mediocre idiot white men fucks who have been legit able to just bluster their way in by sheer incompetence, or am I going to have to spend the rest of my life watching this shit happen?
