Rules: Tag ten people you want to get to know better. I was tagged by @deputychairman

I wrote this entire thing out, set it aside to figure out how to tag it and who to tag in it, and then Chrome shut down and lost it, so this is me officially devoting way too much time to this to do it again. But I do so love seeing these things, so I’m doing it. And fuck it, I’m still sick, so it’s not like I’m really capable of doing anything better with my time.

Countries I’ve Lived In: US, UK (Scotland)– and I feel like I should be able to specify New Jersey separately because fuck you, I survived nearly a year in New Jersey

Favorite Fandom: I have only ever really been involved in such a tiny handful of fandoms, usually one at a time, that it just seems like I’m not playing fair to pick a favorite. They all offer different things, and of course I don’t mean the source material, I mean the experience of interacting with other fans in that nebulously-defined space known as “fandom”. The newest, and therefore shiniest, is Star Wars, and I’m really enjoying seeing how that shakes out, being so massive and yet so– intimate? i keep running into the same people, and they run into one another, and it’s fascinating to see someone I knew from LJ in the 00s interact with someone I met in real life within the last 5 years. Really fascinating.

Languages You Speak: English. I mean, I know some terrible high-school Spanish that I do try to brush up on periodically but it mostly got shoved out of my head by high-school Latin (who does that? i did), and I can order a beer in modern Greek, and I can make a series of increasingly-improbable observations in Norwegian (bokmål, if anyone’s counting), and I have some great stories about being literally terrorized by the study of medieval languages, but I have no actual functional command of any languages other than English, because I am *Sam the Eagle voice* an American, and our educational system is useless.

Favorite Film of 2015: So it’s a thing, apparently, that my television broke in the year 2000 or so. That’s not true; I remember watching the Sept 11th news stuff on it, but I don’t remember anything after that. Anyway. I moved out of college in 2002 with no TV, and moved in with a boy who had no working TV, and we just– never acquired one. So I don’t have one. That’s less and less weird, but I’m just so entirely out of the habit of consuming visual media that it’s kind of. A thing. I watch three movies a year on average, and in 2015 I watched Age of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road on the big screen (which was more movies in a single year that I could remember as an adult). (The year’s third movie was probably something on DVD at a friend’s house and I don’t remember it because those Movie Nights also routinely involve improbable amounts of drinking, and so the movie becomes not the salient feature of the evening. It was probably District 9, which isn’t true but it’s a running joke that that’s the only movie I’ve ever seen.)

Anyway, MM:FR wins, but that’s not exactly difficult.

Last Article You Read: I just had an article read to me out loud about Human Mattress Dominos but it was sort of incoherently recounted all out of order across the room, because my dude is not the most organized storyteller first thing in the morning.

Shuffle your song library and put the first three titles here: So this is increasingly a thing: I don’t have a Song Library. I mean, I have like 30GB of music on my old computer but I subscribed to Google Play when I got the new computer, and so I have access to that library through the service, and also to literally everything else they have the rights to (which is almost everything but not quite), so — there’s literally no way for me to do this common meme question in the spirit in which it’s intended, which is to really randomly bring up the depths of my musical tastes in an uncontrolled way. I can’t think of an honest way of doing the same thing. If i do something non-random, it’s impossible to filter out my ego from trying to Present My Music Attractively.

It’s a sign of the times, man. Somebody’s got to update this meme. I’m not the one to do it.

I will share the semi-embarrassing fact that I’m often at such a loss as for what to listen to that for all of last week on my car commute I listened to an impromptu playlist I’d mashed together of Halsey’s Badlands and Beyoncé’s self-titled recent album. It was– I kept skipping things, it was clearly not really what I wanted, but I did not fix it and listened to it all week in the car.

Last Thing You Bought Online: Martha Wells’s latest novel, which I have rambled about here but come on if you are not reading about the shapeshifting dragon people you are missing the fuck out.

Last Person You Dreamed Of: So this is very uncharacteristic of me, but I had a dream where John Boyega was at my parents’ house filming something, and I had several charming interactions with him. I wasn’t– strictly myself? I was a character in the dream? and it wasn’t quite my actual parents’ house? but it was a thing. So that was odd, I don’t dream about celebrities. As I was waking up it became a more typical-me dream, in that I wasn’t a character, and also Oscar Isaac showed up and it became a medical horror thriller in which he actually wasn’t particularly horrified or thrilled about anything, he mostly just gently poked fun at John Boyega who was being charming and witty as the horror movie went on in the background. I woke up very confused.

Any Recurring Dream: Not really, I remember my dreams very poorly for the most part.

Any Phobias or Fears: I got Anxieties out the wazoo but like, can’t think of any particular phobias. Unease with heights and deep water, cordial dislike of having my picture taken, total blithe unconcern about public speaking or performance.

How Would Your Friends Describe You: “Loud”, probably.

How Would Your Enemies Describe You: um. Same. Also perhaps “fat” and “crazy” if they’re the mean kind of enemy, but I mean, zero bonus points for creativity on any of that.

Would You Take a Bullet for Someone: Probably. I have tendencies toward violence and a terrible sense of when to get involved in things. I played a sport for the better part of a decade that taught me the noble art of the hipcheck and the position I played was mostly “get in the way”, so I’m great at that. Along with this sport, there was a lot of drinking in bars as part of a large group of women, most of whom were smaller and younger and cuter than me. So I’ve developed this reflex of just– if I don’t like what somebody is doing to someone else, I just– insert my body there, and it’s 220 well-balanced pounds of Fuck Off, and it’s very difficult to continue to hassle a small hot chick if there’s just this enormous bitch with a great command of her center of gravity just levering you out of the way with the gently-curved plane of her squishy-but-substantial hip.

Frankly it would be something of a miracle if this doesn’t get me shot. Except for the fact that I’m a shut-in and rarely have cause to do this anymore.

(I also have a Punching Instinct, which is going to either get me arrested or shot, but I swear I don’t do any of it on purpose. In short, I’m a great friend to have, but only if you’re prepared to abruptly disavow all knowledge of me and make a break for it. I have zero sense about that. Oddly, my sole arrest so far has nothing to do with this, and that’s slightly disappointing.)

If you had money to spare, what would you buy first: Depends on how much and how spare. I’m getting a tax refund but it’s probably all going to get spent on gas.

If I really had a bunch of money to blow on a one-time thing, I’d buy myself some kind of adorable camping trailer like an RV thing, so I could have that instead of the yurt and it would be easier to set up and I could move it around really easily. That’s probably what I’d get. The yurt is more adorable but it requires help to set up and tear down and repair and I hate needing help. (Ohh like an Airstream trailer would be cute but how much better would it be if I could get me a keen vardo?)

Tagging: Nobody feel obligated, but I’d love to see @wyomingnot, @magickedteacup, @s-leary, @bibliophilecellistsoulsearcher, and anyone else who’d be interested!
