I was about to say what’s so problematic about dragonlady but then I was like, oh yeah; anyway tho I still think it’s pretty harmless
It’s just. It’s very slightly icky. I had no idea, though, until I’d had the handle like, the better part of a decade, and posted a selfie after not having done so for a long time, and several people were stunned I wasn’t Asian. I was like… what… and finally Googled it and was like
oh whoops.
It could be worse, yes, and if it was worse, I’d’ve changed it even though I’d lose touch with people and such. But I’m always a little self-conscious about it. I thought it was just Super Nerdy when I made it, and it took a long time for me to realize there was anything else behind it.
I kind of keep it as a reminder to myself to kind of… stay a little humble, you know? I’ll never be Free From Problematicness, because I’m really sheltered and pretty ignorant about a lot of stuff, so the most obvious shit takes me totally by surprise. We are none of us free from sin and me less than even than many. I don’t think it’s, like, actively harmful to anybody, but like, it’s not great. It’s not a choice that’s held up well to the test of time, we’ll just say.
I don’t make new stuff with that handle though. I don’t need to be reminded *quite* that much.
