So I’m rereading all the raksura books because i own them all on my kindle and I had not noticed how in the first one, she makes it clear that Moon is actually sort of categorically attracted to Jade but doesn’t realize it himself?
At first he’s terrified at the very idea of a Raksuran queen because all he knows about them is that they can compel you not to shift, and he’s so traumatized and terrified by life in general that anything that infringes on his freedom like that is the most unthinkable thing.
But then on a trip a scholar shows him a book that has pictures of Raksura in it, and he reacts more strongly to a drawing of a queen than he’d expected to, and then there’s another throwaway line about him leafing through the book when nobody else is looking, trying to find more pictures of queens to look at.
And in his life, he’s had a lot of sexual partners but it’s always been about companionship and making space for himself in a community, and I honestly don’t know if he’d ever experienced genuine sexual attraction before.
IDK rereading these books is really helping pass the time during which I am a useless lump of flesh while this stupid flu has a party in my various lymph spaces etcetera.
