so i guess be ready in about five years @bomberqueen17
I’m pasting in the other post here somewhat redacted for compact replying lol [hey this is my last day on not-mobile for a bit so i’m enjoying it while i can]
pet brushes!!! yes, they are in fact exactly he same as handcards.[…] hey, you have knitters in your life who i’m sure would appreciate handspun! and there’s also art yarn, apparently a booming economy over on etsy. i don’t see the appeal but some people like it i guess. oh my GOSH is there a market for linen/flax, i’m serious, it’s a whole thing in the knitting community in the last couple years. i just checked and purlsoho has more than twenty linens or linen-blend yarns in stock right now. yeah, knitters are a niche market but if you wanted you could make at least a wild hobby if not your own small business out of this. Source:csevet#seriously go to rhinebeck in october and ask around#there are worse ways to spend a weekend and i guarantee you’ll have interested parties#take a knitter! (take meee!)#kiwi the fiber nerd#i don’t mean to like pressure you into the dark and twisted (lol) world of fibershit its just fun and i think youd have fun#and also my obsessions are showing#sorry sorry ill shut up
whaaaaat is rhinebeck what like rhinebeck new york what is… (googles it)
ohhh my god i think i knew that was there that is like an hour away from the farm
I am Going to that. I have lost track of your current location so I have no idea how ridiculous it would be for you to attempt to also attend this but if you want to I would be So Down. I can provide lodging and local transportation. For reals. (It’s 60 miles from the farm, approximately.)
Currently there is a one-foot-by-two-foot patch of flax on the farm, being grown entirely for the decorative flowers, but– the Vegetable Manager is a former art student and he likes that sort of thing. He’s also growing weld, but I didn’t get out to see it last time I was there, and i hope it’s still flowering. I’m trying to get him some madder. My friend with the alpacas grows madder too!
Actually the alpaca guy is the same one who made my yurt. I am not sure what kind of alpacas. They’re all in shades of brown and white, some on the same animal; he never told me their breed or variety or whatever but he definitely told me all their names, so if that gives you any insight into like, this guy’s priorities… he’s actually twice been King of the local SCA Kingdom, if that tells you anything else.
Funny story there’s a lady at the Troy Farmer’s Market who has flowers and alpaca stuff, and my sister and another farmer do flowers too, and they Don’t Like the alpaca lady because Troy is strictly a producer’s market and you are not allowed to sell things there you didn’t produce, and they Know that she’s bringing stuff that’s not hers– firstly they know she doesn’t have that many alpacas, and secondly, they both grow their own flowers, they know what you can really do locally, and what that lady has is Not That. But you know. Farmer’s market drama. (Also my sister’s predecessor and the other flower lady like, hammered out who would have what so they’re never directly in competition, and my sister has bent over backward to consult with the other flower lady since taking over the business because she Does Not Want to undercut her, and the other flower lady despite resting bitchface has actually proven really friendly and, like, invited us over to her house if we wanted to learn how to do some cool thing she does, so. That’s more like what the market’s usually like! The alpaca lady there didn’t ask them or anything, just started bringing weird exotic shit there’s no way she really grew on her porch or wherever…)
I wish I had my health issues sorted out and also my weird desire not to leave my Dude behind, and could just get off my ass and get a flock of sheep and commit to it, because there’s absolutely land and space and infrastructure I could use, and I could do sheep and alpacas right alongside their pastured pigs, and I absolutely could grow flax alongside their feed corn and might even be able to use their whole-ass grain combine to harvest it– but they’re not going to, I’d have to do it. Still, though, I could. I’d just need to commit.
