i wish i could spin i am so jealous
i bet you could! given the tools, and like, an hour tops of teaching. it’s really one of the easiest forms of fibercraft (no math). but the financial barriers to owning a wheel are ass, and spinning on a drop spindle isn’t nearly fast enough to feel satisfying (at least imo).
seriously, i’ve seen your braids, you definitely have the hand dexterity to manage combing and spinning.
I have actually done combing! A friend raises alpacas, and another friend had bought fleece from her, but didn’t know how to process it, and my Middle-little sister had taken a class in fiber arts in college and told me that instead of buying expensive carders, I could just get those wire cat slicker brushes, so I got a few of those and carded a whole bunch of alpaca fleece so she could use it. I’m not sure what her plan was, she has a spinning wheel in storage somewhere but I don’t think she knows how to use it. Or maybe she doesn’t have one and just planned to get it? I’m not sure.
I own a drop spindle and have looked at it and thought, you know, I just…. I don’t… where to start, and also, there is not a lot of time in this world. And i don’t knit, so what would I do with yarn?
I not very secretly am dying to grow flax and process it into linen and learn to weave. Not secret at all, but. (THERE ARE EVEN STREAMS I COULD RET IT IN. COME ON NOW. And that’s one of the historic industries the town the farm is in was built around. It would be so apt. But nobody needs or wants or buys linen so why???)
