ohhhh my god I’m not hating but I’m just saying
y’all Harry Potter fans are still so obsessed with writing 5,000-word text posts of not-quite-AU headcanons
I’d be inspired by it except it’s just wall after wall of text every day
and it’s not like, one person I follow, it’s everyone multiple times
and since I was *almost* into HP i sometimes feel obligated to read them
I’m not hating, it’s really impressive, but shit I gotta blacklist that.

Date: 2015-09-09 06:12 pm (UTC)A headcanon is when something's not specified either way in canon, the author never explained it or didn't get that far or whatever, and it comes to be what you believe about the characters or the events or whatever.
HP is really popular because the entire series is told by an unreliable narrator; Harry is the least observant person ever, and would not have noticed if, say, Hermione was transsexual, or black, or what have you. So there's just this perfect storm of people writing incredibly complex worldbuildings about stuff JKR never got around to specifying.
And it's sweet, but eventually becomes tedious by sheer volume.
