Apparently, that’s a thing, and it’s today.

Simply put, this includes me (bipolar 2, specifically).  I’ve got probably one of the milder cases of the disorder, which I’m thankful for, because my mild stuff still fucks my shit up, years after I’ve gotten treatment and learned to manage it.

Living with it has shaped who I am, as I’m sure it does for everyone who has it, but I also owe my ability to live with it to when I finally stopped pretending it was a thing I could just “handle” without help, and recognized that I was not weak or failing for needing to ask for that help.

I’m not going to do a big list of resources because I don’t have those and there are very good, comprehensive ones floating around tumblr, and honestly if you’re here you’re a Google away from them.  What I will say is that if you are suffering from bipolar disorder or any other mental health problem, you can ask for help.  It’s okay, and you have nothing to be ashamed of.  We’re conditioned not to talk about it, to treat it as shameful - or, if we do, to make it a joke.  The “oh I’m so messed up I bore my therapist” shit Woody Allen built a persona on.  And that’s bullshit.  This is real, it is serious, and this is not your fault.

Talk to someone.  Call a hotline.  Make an appointment.  There are resources available, and if you can’t find them ask someone you know to help you find them.  Talk to a friend, talk to a parent, talk to a partner.  If something’s wrong, it’s okay to need help. You won’t believe how much of a relief it is just to start that process.  You can do it.
You might have to live with the condition, but it can get better.
