I see occasional posts where people are

I see occasional posts where people are like “fandom could write a better x than the paid writers!”
Well… of course fandom could.
Do you think the pros get to be pros by being good? No! That’s not what makes you the writer of a hit show. You get those jobs by knowing people, having connections, and being competent, in that order of importance. Just like many jobs, you get hired because the decision maker has some reason to believe they can trust you to produce what they want.
That does not mean you’re original. It does not mean you have a great and broad understanding of many things. It does not even mean you care about the subject matter. It means you’re reliable, palatable, and most importantly, similar to the decision-maker in enough ways that they trust you without having to think about it too hard.
