in the polish version of the game it’s “ro-sh” but in the English version they pronounce it “roach” with the hard CH. and as i was saying in the tags of that previous post, my great-grandmother pronounced her maiden name, Roche, as “roach”– or at least my dad did when he spoke of her, she died before I was born. And it’s not ambiguous and it’s quite a hard CH. She was Irish, her descendants American.

so people like to complain about how crazy it is that whoever localized the game for Americans settled on that pronunciation of Roche’s name, but clearly they’re not the only people in the world ever to localize the name that way.

(Who knows why my Irish grandmother had a French last name. Possibly pronouncing it that way was a way to distance it from being so French. I do not have enough insight into her family in Ireland sometime before 1912 to be sure. Possibly they pronounced it French in Ireland and it was only as she crossed the Atlantic that this knowledge fled. I genuinely could not say.)

But anyway– yes in my head Roche’s name is entirely different than Roach’s, but not in the part of my brain that types things, and in fact, in the English in both W2 and W2, the man and horse’s names are pronounced identically. (Your picture was not posted)
