am I bi? yes. will i call myself gay? also yes. lesbian? i’m hella lesbian. queer? yep. homosexual, lgbt, sapphic, wlw i’m gonna take all those words and make them mine, i’ll take all the labels until no one else knows what i am. if my rights get labeled gay rights, if i can get gay married, if it’s easier to turn down homophobic shit by saying “actually, I’M gay, so you better watch your mouth.”
it’s not a war, those words are there to help us, and i will use whichever word can help me, and people like me.
You’re not a lesbian if you’re attracted to males and by saying you are and then being with makes you perpetuate the myth of lesbians just needing some dick to make them straight. You can turn down homophobic shit just as easily by saying “actually I’m bi, so you better watch your mouth” and then you’re not acting homophobic yourself smh
Oh, get over yourself. If someone says something heterocentric that implies all women are exclusively attracted to men, and someone else shoots back, “Women can be into women too! Amirite? Any lesbians in here?” I’m gonna put my hand up and cheer with everyone else, not hold back until people say the exact right label for me. And it’s not gonna ~DESTROY EVERYTHING~ if I’ve fucked a guy or two along the way.
What language we use depends HUGELY on context and audience. If I’m explaining to a grandma who knows almost nothing about “those homosexuals” why I don’t have a boyfriend, “gay” and “lesbian” are much better teaching tools than trying to get into inside baseball Tumblrisms like “biromantic demisexual”.
Also (and I say this As A Lesbian who has been threatened with corrective rape etc) I literally don’t understand how a bi girl using “lesbian” somehow implies that if I just get some dick I’ll be straight??? Like a bi girl is still bi??? She’s not straight??? It didn’t work???

Doesn’t it make an even more compelling case? Look, I’ve been getting great dick on the regular from the same awesome dude for fifteen solid years at this point, and am I any less bi than when we started? No. No, it has not turned me any straighter than I was. It’s a monogamous relationship and maybe the most important thing in my life, but I’m still not a straight chick.
Conclusive conclusion: dick doesn’t make you straight!
People assume it does, and so I have to come out periodically to the same people over and over again, but for a lot of these people I’m the only bi person they’re aware of knowing, and it definitely makes them think that over a little bit. I’m super gay and there’s a lot more to that than who I’m actively fucking. Sexual practices and sexual orientation aren’t the same thing. It’s a rainbow, and it’s fundamental to who you are, and it’s not just in the bedroom.
