i was in Canada for a while today. Dude y’all drive like lunatics. Is cruise control not allowed, or something? I drove home without it because it was just driving me crazy to pull out to pass someone, who then sped up to hang out in my blind spot for a while, then sped up to pass me on the right, then slowed down again, and the whole time I’m like, living in the left lane waiting for the world to end, and someone’s coming up behind me, and like, I haven’t touched my accelerator this whole time, and I even double-checked, I’m going a reasonable number of kilograms per minute or whatever, it’s the little numbers on the dial, and then like HOLY FUCK YOUr laNES just GO AWAY SOMETIMES WTF and like, so on.

I hadn’t realized, it’d really been a minute since I’d been over that border. I used to go a lot, and lately haven’t so much. 

Went to Ikea with my sister (the one in Burlington since they’re taking their sweet time opening up the new St. Catharine’s location) and somehow spent an assload of money. But like. Exchange rate, right? So like. Ten bucks in real cash. (I’m kidding.) Got some stuff. My sister has hung a bunch of shelves, some of which I’ve been meaning to hang for literally the better part of a decade, so– and has helped me do other things. I’ve spent like. Five hundred dollars on shelving. I don’t even know. But it’s important. So.

I have gotten no writing done, of course. And I’m tired as shit. And I have a lot to do. I have been really distracted and opened a bunch of fic in tabs and lost track of what was what, and one of the ones I was reading, I’d left off halfway through, and came back to it later and only after a bunch of paragraphs did I realize that it was one I actually wrote. WTF I felt really dirty, like checking someone out only to realize it’s a mirror, ew, weird. 

But it did serve to remind me. I wrote a sub-5k short pithy Stucky fic, and I always tell myself the reason I’m not wildly popular is that I always write unfinished epics, and like– five people read that. It’s short, it’s punchy, it’s to-the-point, and nobody really likes it. It has half a dozen comments and like, no kudos. (Under one in ten, worse than a quick glance suggests my usual ratio is; I’m not doing any more investigating or math because that way, madness lies.) People don’t give a shit about my one-offs and short stuff. Succinct is not what people want from me. So I can sort of console myself with that, I guess! My short stuff is not particularly notable, to the point that I don’t even recognize it as my own writing. 

So, I guess, cold comfort: don’t beat yourself up, B, it’s not the sprawl of your stories that keeps stardom away.

 Also I haven’t posted anything in 2016 and I wonder if non-Tumblr AO3 people think I’m dead.

Ohhh the sun coming out, that’s a good one. Maybe not cheesy enough!! Definitely need to write at least an outtake with the should I walk by again, though. That’s awesome. 

and anon: I been trying to think of pickup lines for you, and the only one I’ve come up with is “are you from the moon? Cause, baby, you’re outta this world.” Don’t know if it’s good, but in not great at puns. Otoh, I’m really looking forward to this fic cause in a huge fan of your marvel fics and I know you’ll blow this one outta the water since you’re just that good a writer. ~Idril

I’m actually really excited because I think maybe I know how it ends, now. Maybe! I know it’s still going to surprise me but I just introduced a new character I’m absolutely delighted to include and I think it’s going to work.

I don’t know that I’ll use most of these pickup lines, but in some form or other, they’ll live on. Definitely. Because this has been too much fun.
