as usual I can’t watch the video (well I guess I *could*, but I just have issues with video it seems), so thank you for your lovely text description!

oh I feel you on watching videos, this is the only one I’ve watched this week. I looked long and hard for any other explanations in text, and there just wasn’t anything, so I finally bit the bullet. And it was sort of annoying, choppy camera work poorly-focused kind of stuff, but once I was in it I really liked the woman’s voice and speaking cadence, and the way her daughter smiled fondly and tolerantly as she spoke, and without words but with nonverbal prompting kept handing her the hairtie in a way that indicated they’d clearly been doing this the daughter’s whole life. And the woman said, during the video, she’d learned by doing her father’s hair when she was a child, because he’d always worn his long and traditional too. (For Hopis, hair symbolizes rain, and the layers and bangs symbolize cloud shapes. I didn’t understand all of it but it sounded entrancingly beautiful.)

It was just so beautiful, the two of them, and the mother so clearly proud of her daughter’s beauty and proper upbringing, and the girl so fond of her mother.

And the way the mother kept pulling hard on the hairtie and the daughter tolerantly braced herself reminded me, a lot, a lot a lot, of my own childhood.
