Last night at practice, as I mentioned on Twitter, I was there for so long, got so absorbed in what I was doing, and perhaps had so much fun, that I forgot entirely about the rest of my life. I came back to the bench to take my skates off and was struck with the overwhelming realization that I had to go to work the next morning. Oh lordy. It was astonishing, partly because it was so astonishing.
Then I put my coats and boots on and lugged my skate bag out of the rink, only to be totally astonished that it was winter! There was snow everywhere! Actively coming down! ..... Jjjuuust like it had been all day, and the day before that. ... Which was why I was wearing boots in the first place. Um, yeah.
I got home and sat on the couch with a tall glass of chocolate milk, and stared blankly at the computer, trying to get sleepy enough to go to bed. I finally was around midnight (it takes a while to unwind from skating), and so retired to bed. Where I was too cold to sleep. So I turned the electric blanket up, which I never do.
Shortly I became wonderfully warm and cozy. I lay in the bed feeling blissfully comfortable. And didn't fall asleep. And didn't fall asleep. An hour went by, and another half an hour. I turned over and Z half-woke up and snuggled very comfortingly with me, though I don't think he really woke. More time went by. Chita came into the room, asking a quiet prrruping question, and climbed across the headboard to come snuggle by my face. She curled up, put her front paws in my hand, and fell asleep, purring. I still lay awake for another long while, thinking about how happy and comfortable I was, but wishing I was asleep.
Today I am utterly struck stupid. I can't focus, can't complete tasks; I'm tired, my eyes are heavy, and I just can't remember how to do anything. It's maddening to be this dumb. But obviously I already *was* this stupid yesterday, from my goldfish-like reactions to everything. "Oh! There's a little plastic castle over here! Neato! Ooh, gravel. Mm, food! Oh! There's a little plastic castle over here. Neato!"
The only saving grace is that it's slow at work today. I am too stupid to cope with my job, and likewise too stupid to be polite to customers. I have no sense of humor-- not because I'm cranky, but because I honestly don't remember how that's supposed to work. People say things that aren't true and it's funny? I forget how it goes. Jazz hands, or something! Argh!
