I forgot to mention this.
My baby wee sister (who is, I believe, 22 now) has just moved to Chicago with her shiny new degree in Natural Resources from Cornell. She has a blog,
here, wherein you can see, among other things, a photo of my astonishingly-bearded father. In said blog she has posted a link to her new employer,
Plants of Concern.
She is new to Chicago and has no friends there, and is at a conference this weekend so she is missing her own graduation ceremony and all the attendant opportunities to say farewell to her friends from college. So she's a little down, and a little lonely.
I'm not asking a bunch of Internet 'strangers' to go hang out with her, but I'd appreciate some suggestions on Things Not To Be Missed in Chicago, and some tips on how to get by there.
(I do hear that the cicadas are having a poor showing. Baby Sister is deeply unimpressed.)
In particular if anyone knows of any Irish traditional music sessions I've been pestering her to get back into attending those. And tell me all about the summer festivals-- I know there must be a ton of those!!
Anyway-- I'll more than likely be going out to visit her this summer sometime, so, certainly suggest events and things I shouldn't miss! I'd love to meet up with any of you who are bored.
I do know I'd like to see the Chicago roller derby team, the
Windy City Rollers-- they've got bouts all summer long. They sound like a
good time.
