music for writing
Sep. 5th, 2004 12:01 amA few months ago, I hit a kind of rough patch in writing and was doing some beta work. I spent a lot of time playing with my music library (which is vast, and I just had to delete a bunch of stuff to get it down under 28 GB so it'd fit on my iPod). And at one point, I put together this playlist of mp3s which I then posted on my server. (Yes, I first converted them from Apple-proprietary AAC files. I am nice like that.)
This was done specifically for Gypsum (lj-user link doesn't work because I crosspost to an MT blog), but I just rediscovered it today when I put up another mp3 for her with a wicked bodhran solo.
So I thought I'd link to it and see if anyone else wanted to participate in illegal music piracy and listen to about a dozen of my favorite songs. :)
I wrote a little descriptive bit about each song that made the cut. I love talking about music I like.
They're all downtempo, some more than others. Many are traditional Irish. Some are traditional American, of varying sorts. Most are a bit soporific. I dig slow melancholy songs for writing, usually.
I don't have permission from any of the recording companies or artists involved. I just really like the songs and put them on my server because I have the space and the bandwidth. Some of the songs, I admit, I never even bought the CDs for, but have either borrowed from friends, or illegally downloaded somewhere or other, or somehow have ill-gotten it. So I can't really morally defend it, except by saying that I provide all the information I know about each one and encourage you to go buy the music of the artists you like. :) Danú have a new CD out, by the way, which is not mentioned on their website. Search for it on Amazon; that's where my mom got it. :)
