Cosmo's building a bubble nest!

(I named the fish Cosmo. He's blue and going into a giant martini glass. Cosmo seemed like a good name. If you're curious, I have the recipe for a blue cosmo memorized: 1/2 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz blue curucao, 2 ounces Citroen vodka, shake with ice, strain into chilled martini glass, garnish with lime. In my case, it will be a blue fish and some green rocks, but it's close enough. It'll keep better without the vodka.)

A bubble nest! Who feels like a good Betta mommy now! Holy crap, I guess he feels at home in the new place!! You don't see the poor little bastards building bubble nests in their tiny jars in pet stores, now do ya? Didn't think so.

*preens*

He eats from just about my hand, too. Am I a spaz? Yes.

Oh, notice the timestamp? Thunderstorm plus beagle equals wakefulness. But she ran back up the stairs to go check on Dave, and she hasn't been back down, and it hasn't thundered, so I may go back to bed now.
Just wandered over to check out what Cosmo was up to, and thought what the hell-- he's been blowing bubbles! But that's something happy male betta fish do when they feel safe and comfortable in their homes. They blow a nest hoping to attract a female so they can spawn. (When she does show up, they'll more than likely just beat the hell out of each other, but if she's in the mood and does the dance with him, he'll reciprocate, and then... they don't even get to screw. No. She lays a bunch of eggs, he fertilizes them, he picks them up and sticks them into the bubbles, and then she leaves or he kills her to make sure she won't eat the babies.)

I will not be spawning bettas (that's what breeding them is called; not saying I'd be doing any spawning personally, but I'd be the enabler. And that's just wrong.) so the nest will go unused, but I'm quite flattered that he's building one.

How much cooler is this than watching a sad droopy fish swim in tiny circles around an itty jar? It's way cooler, that's how much cooler.

It stings, oh it stings, oh how it stings

Ooh. Ahh. Ooh. Eeeeh. I'm not making any noise out loud because I am a brave girl and Dave is sleeping, but I just Solarcained my skinned knee and it stings like OW and aren't you proud I didn't write a cuss word there? I didn't. I'm so good.

It is now 7 am and I have been awake since 3 because of the dog and the thunder. She has not been awake this whole time, but I have. I bravely put up the gate so she couldn't go up the stairs to wake up Dave, because he has to go to school today from 10 am until 11 pm and I don't want him being sleepy.

So I gave up sleeping with him the last night I would be able to (his mom comes home tonight), for the DOG. Aren't I a good person? Dammit, I am a good person and this stings and I'm not making any noise.

Somebody give me a goddamn cookie. All right? That's all I'm asking for-- a freaking cookie.

Sadly, there are none in this house.

lest you think

Lest you think that I am all talk and no action, I am posting pictures of several of the most recent events.

Some of the pictures don't make much sense but dammit, they're proof or illustration of whatever it was.

And no, this isn't coherent enough to be one of those nice auto-generated Photoshop galleries. No... they're just four random photos. I'd take more and make a cohesive photoessay, but at the moment I have no card reader for my computer and dave's computer is with him enroute to Rochester. So, no coherence for you. Just random pictures.

Uh?

I just turned down a collect call from "Unh", from the Erie County Correctional Facility.
Does that make me a bad person?

If it's a mitigating factor at all, I don't know anyone named "Unh" at all.

(I dunno-- you know how they have the person say their name, and then they play that for you? It was just a dude going "Unh" incoherently. There were no real letters in it.)
