100 years old, a US Army-issue Colt .45 revolver gifted (legally, with permit arrangements) to my dad by a collector who saw him at a Veterans Day presentation in his WWI uniform. Very cool piece in excellent condition and not as scary to shoot as I’d expected.

It really is! Dad already owns a WWI pistol-- an M1911, the automatic version. I learned to fire it as a youth and didn't like it, I found it so big and intimidating and the slide was heavy and hard to work. I'd never fired a revolver before, and thought I wouldn't like shooting this one, because it's just as big as the M1911, and supposedly has even more of a kick (some of the force is absorbed with the '11's slide kicking back that isn't in a revolver), but I really didn't find it at all hard to handle, and I did much better with it than with the two little modern compact 9mms we also shot with today. (Both my sister and my father are a little bit nutty about guns and have concealed-carry permits, and these super-plasticky little tiny compact modern handguns, and I just-- don't care for them.)

I guess I like revolvers! This one has such a beautiful aesthetic, too. I should've taken some detail shots of the cylinders. Getting it for free, Dad figured it'd be pretty beat-up, but it's just in gorgeous shape.
